In 2020, the sub-county had posted a mean grade of 277.950 points out of a possible 500 points.
A total of 3,195 pupils (1,627 boys and 1,568 girls) sat for the KCPE exam in the constituency while 20 pupils (9 boys and 11 girls) didn't do the exams, although registered to do so, because of varying reasons.
This against a backdrop of 55 schools (public and private) that paticipated in the process. At the County level, Kiambaa sub-county was sixth out of the twelve sub-counties that Kiambu County has.
The top pupil, a girl named Loise Ng'endo, attained 416 marks and came from Muya Primary School, a public school situated at Ndenderu.

The school located at the border between Kiambaa and Kiambu constituencies, along Banana-Kiambu road, was the top school in Kiambaa after garnering a mean score of 365.870 points, a positive deviation of 28.200 points as contrasted with the 2020 results where they had a mean score of 337.670 points.
Mr Augustine Ochanji, the headteacher at the school attest the good performance to teamwork between teachers, parents, and the management. They also engaged resource persons - teachers from other schools - to teach the pupils.
He also cites the completion of the syllabus, the support they got from the Sub-County Education Office, and the positive engagements with the neighbouring community did contribute positively to the exemplary performance.
In-spite of the good performance the school experienced some challenges and they include:
Water - their water is supplied by the public water agency that is responsible for supplying water to the sub-county and sometimes the supply is irregular forcing them to source water from private vendors but the situation is being arrested by installing a borehole which has already being dug and high-mast stands already erected to hoist the big water tanks.
Low enrolment - the pupils that sat for the exams were 30 (14 boys and 16 girls) but the school has the capacity for even more pupils as the headteacher says. They are yet to reach their potential in regards to pupils' population.
Top pupil, Lindway Nyambura had 415 marks.
Asked about this year's anticipated performance, Mr Ochanji says, "We are equally prepared to give our best".
The school posted a mean score of 334.320 a negative deviation (drop) of 7.350 points since they posted a mean score of 341.670 in the 2020 results.
Albeit a drop in the mean score, the school provided the sub-county top pupil, Loise Ng'endo who attained 416 marks out of a possible 500.
Mr John Kuria, the Deputy Headteacher at the school attributes the good performance to among many things like:
High level of discipline at the school, positive collaboration between the pupils, parents, and the teachers, regular forums with the parents discussing their children education performance and sensitizing them on good upbringing of their children.
Ample time that the teachers create and utilize to ensure that time available is maximized for learners benefit e.g., during prep time in the evening there is always a teacher teaching in every class up until 5 and by doing this they were able to cover the syllabus.
On top of this they have remedial classes for grade 6 - 8 every Saturday.
Some of the challenges being experienced at the school currently includes:
Lack of adequate space of the playing field - currently, the school shares the playing field with the neighbouring Ndenderu Vocational Training Centre.
ECDE teacher - due to the high population of Early Childhood Development & Education (ECDE) pupils, the Board of Management (BOM) hired an extra tutor to complement the two already deployed by the County Government of Kiambu and so it's a humble plea by the deputy headteacher to the county administration to absorb the concerned tutor as a motivation for the work done.
The school is located at Ndenderu, Ndenderu - Wanginge road.
The school got a mention from the Education Cabinet Secretary, Professor George Magoha when releasing the KCPE 2021 results in Nairobi for posting improved results in the public schools category and being the second school to do so nationally, the first being Kambi ya Waya Primary School at the Coast.
The school posted a mean score of 248.352, a substantial gain of 40.562 points as compared to the 2020 results where they garnered a mean grade of 207.790 points.
"The results are very encouraging", Mr. John Thuo, Deputy Headteacher at the school proudly says. He attributes the encouraging results from the support they got from the parents e.g., they bought the revision guides as prompted by the teachers for pupils' use.
The extra hours put on by the teachers together with the learners went a long way of ensuring that the syllabus was completed on time.
He also asserts that the school feeding programme played a positive impact in the improved results because in one way or another it motivate the pupils to attend their classes. Currently, the pupils are taking porridge only due to lack of funds.
Some of the challenges experienced are:
Water - the school depends on a stream that is in a downslope behind the school and when it's rainy, they can't access the water due to the muddy path that goes to the stream.
Absenteeism - the school is located in the middle of tea plantations and most of the pupils' parents work on this plantations as casual laborers and when COVID19 pandemic struck, many of them were laid off and this prompted the young ones to miss school due to lack of basic needs while some of them helped their parents to do menial jobs to restore their livelihoods.
Porous fence - to sustain their school feeding programme, the school cultivates vegetables in the school garden but the produce are stolen due to a porous fence because anyone can get in and out due to the fence gaping spaces. Sometimes they are forced to harvest the product while yet to mature so as not to lose it to thieves.
The top pupil, Joshua Ochieng, an orphan garnered 395 Marks and he's currently in school since a well wisher came forward.
The school is located in Cianda Ward, along Kiambu-Limuru road.
The school improved its mean score by a whooping 91.422 points to post a mean score of 305.722 points up from 214.300 points in 2020.
The school proprietor who also doubles up as a teacher in the same school, the humble and joyous Madam Gladys Nyambura Kiongo, told me she named the school after her late dear mother Karen Wanjiru.
She then enumerates some of the factors that contributed to the impressive performance and they include:
Putting God first - they have fellowships with the pupils in a nearby church prior to the exams.
Her being present at the school goes a long way in ensuring that everything goes on smoothly.
Qualified and dedicated teachers that ensures that the learners receive quality education.
Teaching the learners to be early risers and being late when going home (lessons starts at 7am and end at around 6pm) as she says, "I always tell them if you want As you have to work for them".
She also adds that she invest in quality teaching books.
She confidently says, "I'm strict with children's learning".
One of the challenge that she encountered was during the resumption of the schools after the COVID19 hiatus in that some of the teachers never returned.
The top pupil at the school was John Kinuthia who garnered 378 marks.
The school is located in Kimuga village, Ka-Njiku area, Karuri Ward, Banana-Limuru road.
The school located in Karuri Ward via Banana-Limuru road, posted a mean score of 310.200 points a significant gain of 57.432 points as compared to the 2020 reports when they posted a mean score of 252.770 points.
According to Mr John Kirimi, a senior teacher at the school, credits of the good performance can be credited to the teamwork experienced between teachers, parents, pupils and the management. By this, they were able to cover the entire syllabus by the second term and making the third term exclusive for revision purposes.
Regular assessments of pupils also played a role whereby the best performers were motivated by giving them small gifts, monetary incentives to the teachers, and befriending the bottom performers.
One of the main challenge experienced during the period was absenteeism due to e.g., lack of fees for some of the pupils.
"We have a target of at-least a mean grade of 350 points this year", Mr Kirimi says optimistically at the end of the short interview.
The top pupil was David Ngugi who had 355 Marks.
